Famous Actress Praises Son For Protesting Anthem

Debra Messing, known best from her role as Grace from the show “Will & Grace” decided it was her duty to weigh in on the NFL protests which have been dividing America.

On Instagram Messing spoke about how her 13-year-old son questioned the National Anthem and chose to remain seated in protest.

Here’s what Messing’s post read on Instagram:

“’Please stand for the Star Spangled Banner.’

Son: ‘Mom, I want to sit down in protest. Can we do that?’

Me: ‘Yes, honey. We can do that.’

“Who’s crying? I’m not crying. #BLM (Black Lives Matter).”

IT’S TIME TO PROTEST THE WILL& GRACE SHOW,SHE IS TEACHING HER SON TO NOT RESPECT THE FLAG AND WHAT IT STANDS FOR, IT IS TIME TO SEND HER A MESSAGE,

      BLM=Beyond Logical Meditation

    • shetland pony1

Why are so many people upset about how certain individuals decide not to stand for the National Anthem. Stop being a hypocrite. Everyone has a right according to the Constitution to do whatever they want concerning the Flag and National Anthem. Have you ever read the entire National Anthem? If not l would recommend to everyone who think it’s wrong not to stand to read the entire Anthem. We as a Nation of different people should respect others decisions as long as not breaking the law. Who decide what right or wrong concerning the Flag and National Anthem certainly not me or you. It’s disrespectful when we want to impose our beliefs and opinions on others. I don’t believe whether you are sitting, standing or kneeling is disrespecting the Flag, Military or Country. You are being ask to stand, it not a requirement unless this Country has become a dictatorship.

      • Charles Lagioia

MAYBE IT TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE THE UNITED STATES,AND THEN YOU COULD WALK ALL OVER THE FLAG AS MUSH AS YOU WANT,BUT WILL NOT DO IT IN THE UNITED STATES,

        • shetland pony1

Why are you so angry about someone not standing. It a matter that only concerns the individual. Why are you and everyone so angry about what someone decide to do concerning the National Anthem and Flag, whether standing, sitting or kneeling? That’s an individual decision. You have decided for yourself not everyone else what to do concerning the National Anthem and Flag. That why there’s a Constitution. Everyone have a right to freedom of expression regardless of what you or l might think.

          • Gary McCluskey

Are you familiar with the US flag code? The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the national flag of the United States of America. It is Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq).Nowhere in the code does it provide for kneeling during the anthem (protest or otherwise). Whether you are familiar with US code or not, it is a guideline to be followed and statute if not enforced law. This country is based on the rule of law and when a protest flagrantly violates that rule/code, and all that have stood/died for it…. YES, it is upsetting!

          • shetland pony1

Yes, and you are right. However, the Supreme Court case US vs Eichman say we have the right to freedom of speech and freedom even concerning the Flag. Question? Are you the Gary McCluskey that worked on Johnston Atoll before it’s closure?

          • Gary McCluskey

Indeed, it is “protectected” free speech as well. There lies the rub. To do something morally wrong and disrespectful to others, but protected by free speech or to be respectful of others and pick a more appropriate venue for such a protest/awareness campaign. While I did spend a great deal of time serving all over the world, the closest I probably came to Johnson Atoll was Anderson (Guam).

          • Charles Lagioia

MAYBE YOU DON’T UNDER STAND WHAT THE FLAG STANDS FOR,MEN AND WOMEN DIE FOR OUR FLAG,YO HIVE YOU THE FREEDOM YOU ENJOY TODAY I AM ALSO A VETERAN THAT IS WHY I AM ANGRY IN WHAT YOU SAID TO ME YOU ARE WRONG,IF YOU DON’T THINK YOU SHOULD STAND FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM THEN YOU SHOULD GO TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY.

          • shetland pony1

But, the protest was never about the Flag. I understand more than you could probably know. However, my opinion on this issue is about freedom of expression and speech according to the constitution. It’s doesn’t offend me that someone decide to express that right. l don’t believe it’s disrespectful to the veterans who gave there all to defend this country. That why they served, to protect those rights given by the constitution. Why should l have to go to another country simply because we disagree? Remember your oath when joining the Armed Forces was to the Constitution not the National Anthem or Flag.

      • phil62

Try getting your fence-sitting ass out and fighting for people like you and for the flag/anthem that represents this country. All you jerks have to do is stand up and say thank you to all of the MILLIONS of men and women of ALL races who gave their lives and limbs for you. I gave 23 years of my life and it ends up being a disgrace because of assholes like you. GET OFF THE FENCE and at least have enough nerve to be on one side or the other.

        • Richard

I certainly agree, thanks for your service; 20 years here US Army and there R some in Hollywood with brains, not those liberal air heads that should keep their mouths closed.

          • phil62

TY too Richard. I can’t help gettin’ so damned mad at these jerks. The vast majority of these people do not even know what the flag and anthem represents, and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with racism.

          • Richard

UW, this kid probably sits behind a game console all day, has never been in the military. Obvious he has no concept of American Pride.

        • shetland pony1

What make you think you are better than anyone who haven’t served in the Armed Forces? There are people that have served this country in other ways than by servicing in the military. Why are so called liberals air heads? There are conservatives, liberals and Independents as far as that concern need to keep there mouth closed. Why servicing 23 years a disgrace because of my opinion on what the Constitution states about our freedom of expression? My decision not to disagree with someone sitting, standing or kneeling for the National Anthem or Flag in way make servicing I’m the Armed Forces disgraceful. And thinks for your service of 23 years. My views and yours are not to disrespect

          • phil62

I will disrespect whoever and whatever I choose. I will always disrespect ANYONE who disrespects the American flag. I was being sarcastic when I said my 23 years of service was disgraceful. I mean that the actions of these pukes are making a disgrace of EVERY member of the Armed Forces that is serving or has served. The flag is NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY RACIAL PROBLEMS: it is the blame on individual persons and their actions and not the Flag. If you think it is alright to do it then by all means sit your ass down with them — just don’t do it in front of me. Lastly – keep the damned politics out of public sports.

      • michael t

then your beliefs are at odds with millions upon millions of fellow Americans

        • shetland pony1

That’s OK, that’s why we have opinions. We are not going to always agree. That the beauty of being able to have discussions on why one thinks he or she is right an the other one wrong. Simply because millions agree with you does make it right. What about the millions that disagree with you does make them right. Freedom of speech is given to each an every citizen. How you use it is up to you as long as you doesn’t violate the law.

          • Budski

Is Shetland Pony the same as Horses A$$?

        • shetland pony1

That might be true. But that does mean you’re right and l’m wrong. Still differences of opinions.

      • Richard

They have that right and I have the right to be upset over what I perceive to be someone disrespecting my country. Protesting is fine, disrespecting our country knowingly and willingly is not alright to me or the MAJORITY of true Americans, and also to quit watching a game is my right as is not buying tickets or supporting these snowflakes is also my right!

        • shetland pony1

I agree that you have a right to protest whatever you want. But, what gives you and the other millions of Americans the right to determine what is disrespectful to the Country? That’s your opinion like the rest of the citizens. The Constitution says something different.

          • Richard

I have the right, just as the other millions of Americans to make up our own minds. You and other anti American scum bags have that right, but you are wrong!!!!!!!!!

          • Richard

My right & many more to determine what is disrespectful is very simple for most Americans, it is Patriotism for my country. If U or anyone thinks R Constitution, Flag, National Anthem is wrong, please leave…dimwit celebs can raise their kids just like everyone else…but respect the only country that one can protest at an appropriate place & time.
I am sick of people that forget why their was an American Revolution, a Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc.
Why is it, Illegals come here & bring their sick values, get on welfare, free housing; then stomp on R Flag or bring their false flag.

Have U forgotten……0ur…. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all !!!
Have U forgotten Pearl Harbor, 9/11? or why R their so many Muslims, here in America bringing their false religion here that has NO place in any western civilization? Division in America was Obama’s main objective, funded by George Soros pushing his agenda to destroy America….wake the hell up!!!
I am a retired 1SG, US Army, and took an oath to ” Defend this country and uphold our Constitution against all enemy’s, foreign or domestic” and it does NOT have an expiration date.

          • downintx

Thank you sir, not only for your years of service but for speaking the truth. Our generation was raised to respect the flag and the song. It’s too bad the last 8 years happened, it only brought this country WAY down and it’s up to us to make it “GREAT” again and we can only do that by re-programming our youth that have been taught this garbage.

          • Richard

U R so correct, the problem is in R education, or rather the dumbing down R children in Schools, High Schools & Colleges> We have Socialism running amoke; Democrats entrenched with people like Pelosi, Feinstein, Reid, Schummer, Sharpton, Jackson (Sheila & Jessie), Bloomberg….hell even some RINO’s like McCain, Graham, McConnell…one can go on & on….don’t forget the so called celebrities like A. Baldwin, A. Judd , W. Goldberg, S. Penn…& the Socialist Media Networks, MSNBC,NBC, CNN, CBS, ….well its just what Obama wanted to do; divide & destroy America!
Taking GOD out of R schools back in 1963 was a Huge mistake; now the liberals want Islam taught in R schools! JUST MY OBSERVATION, while growing up in America!
Hopefully, now that we have a real President, he can…Make America Great Again! We need to support him and any politician that is against him should be voted out of office.
            Term Limits!

President Donald Trump is responding to violent protests on the campus of U.C. Berkeley by threatening to withhold federal funds to campuses that don’t protect the freedom of speech. DO IT! Same as Santuary City’s, also to organizations like CAIR, the UN, any organization that spreads crap…!

          • shetland pony1

I agree, however believe the constitution apply to everyone rights. I agree on Soros and what about The Koch brothers? They all have influence on the politicians in Washington.

          • Charles Lagioia

THANK YOU for your services, THIS person is a real JERK or a f -in ASS HOLE,Richard YOU can’t talk to a Ass hole.

        • shetland pony1

I agree, that what make freedom of speech and expression so important. That’s what the constitution protect, your right to protest, whether are not we agree or disagree.

      • gene smiith

So only the protesters are allowed to voice or express their displeasure?

        • shetland pony1

No, everyone has the right to protest and voice there opinions. However, if someone decide to protest against something and you disagree doesn’t make you right and them wrong. Only the law dictates whether you are right wrong.,

          • Richard

The law does not dictate have pride in our country, apparently you have none.

          • shetland pony1

            Proverbs: 16 verse 18

      • Richard

You are totally dumb to the concept of Pride in ones country..

        • shetland pony1

          Pride goeth before destruction!

          • disqus_UCltUOQx4V

Pride in ones self blinds and brings down…not pride in the patriotism of our country!!!

      • Nikita63

Obama and the liberal lunatics of the left have been doing doing JUST THAT, for the past eight years, betraying every AMERICAN traditional value, all conventional morality and every Founding principle which is a direct violation of their SWORN OATHS as elected officials to “defend and uphold the CONSTITUTION against ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC,” not to become such!

        • shetland pony1

I agree, but you left out the entire government. That include all Democrats, Republicans, Independents and anyone other government official. This Country has no morales. The so called politicians are in bed with every corporate CEO and Big Business. The American people are so ignorant and complacent. They keep voting the same corrupt politicians back in office. They all need to go. They don’t work for the people, but for themselves and their buddies. We need to vote everyone out all lifetime politicians need to retire. There’s no difference between a liberal, conservative or libertarian in government they or all hypocrites, corrupt and rotten.

  • Robert

I purely need to know what another “actress” and a 13 year old “think” and/or say.

  • michael t

and exactly what was an 8 yeAr old child protesting

  • joaniet

I’ll protest her for sending the wrong message to her son! It isn’t “cool” to protest the flag of the nation that provides her and her family of affluence and opulence!
Debra— if you and your son feel a need to protest, please exit the USA and relocate elsewhere. Venezuela, Cuba or Bangladesh might be among choices you ought to consider. Well wishes to you wherever you end up!

  • KingDon

Typical entertainment industry airhead. She’s hardly a famous actress – just an actress. And, is the Will and Grace show even still on the air?

  • Deplorable Irredeemable Susan

People are attempting to tear down everything this nation “stands” for.
The NAACP dug up some obscure section in a verse in the national anthem.
This section is open to the interpretation of the language of a by-gone era.
This, I might add, is a verse that nobody ever sings. Perhaps they need to
stop searching out things to get offended by. It must be horrible to be filled with
so much hatred and rage. I feel sorry for people who don’t ever feel joy or
peace within themselves. Just wait until we actually ARE under a dictatorship.
Are you looking forward to bowing to Mecca several times a day? Are you
longing to be rounded up into rail cars heading to prison? Are you hoping to
watch families rousted from sleep to be executed in the streets for being true
Americans? There may come a time when you wished that you had been
loyal to America. All of the freedoms to gripe and complain will end one day
soon. Valid reasons to complain are fast approaching, but we ALL won’t
be allowed to voice them then………………….

    • Ardvark

The NAACP will do anything to keep black victimization going in order to make money! Jesse Jackson’s rainbow coalition is a prime example, he extorts from black businesses! The education system helps out by keeping people uneducated and operating on emotion instead of objectivity, the media gladly joins in an promotes BS emotional subjects!

      • Deplorable Irredeemable Susan

        Very true.
I read yesterday that Asians got offended because a food ad for a
restaurant had chopsticks facing in a racist direction…….

        • Ardvark

          In today’s society, probably happened!

    • shetland pony1

Being loyal to this Country has nothing to do with whether a person stand, sit or kneel during the National Anthem. We are always ask to stand, your decision and my decision to stand, sit or kneel. Talking about the verse of the Anthem. My question would be why not sing the entire Anthem? Francis Scott Key the writer knew what he was thinking and doing when he wrote the National Anthem. It not left for interpretation but what he is actually saying. Do the research it will tell you about what he meant. He disagreed with individuals fighting with the union for the freedom of others. This is the part of the Anthem that’s omitted. He believed in slavery an voiced his concern while writing the National Anthem. But this isn’t about just the National Anthem or Flag. This is about your right to freedom of expression. Whether you or l disagree with each other it doesn’t change the facts. The Constitution gives everyone the right to freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

      • Deplorable Irredeemable Susan

I am happy for you because you must have known Francis Scott Key
personally and discussed his views with him at great length. Our flag
and our national anthem are non-negotiable. It seems ridiculous that
we have always respected this nation and what it stands for until some
leftist mal-content says he thinks it is wrong. People follow some fool
and every patriot is not supposed to say anything? As you can see,
it’s not happening! It has everything to do with honoring our identity
as a nation. America first! USA! MAGA!!!

        • shetland pony1

The protest was never about the National Anthem or Flag. It was about social injustices. The POTUS was the individual who voiced his opinion and called everyone kneeling SOBS. Was it appropriate for the POTUS to call protesters that? I agree he has the same right as everyone else to voice his opinion. That’s when everyone decided to join in with the Anti Americans, National Anthem and Flag issue. As for as knowing Francis Scott Key personally thinks for the sarcastic comment. However, that’s why we have history books and documentation on pass and present writing by individual like Francis Scott Key, Thomas Jefferson and many others. Why are you labeling individuals who disagree with you leftist? Does that mean you are on the right an a Conservative Democrat? Why would you call someone a fool because he or she does something you don’t agree with? Your rights hasn’t been violated. Does it make you a Patriot to disagree with someone? Are does that mean you have a difference of opinion? You are doing the very same thing, the people you call leftists for following someone else in a protest. Are you not following individuals who disagree with the protest?

          • Deplorable Irredeemable Susan

The “protest” has NOTHING to do with social injustice. It is a
Muslim vs American issue. Kaepernick started this to please his
Muslim girlfriend. Social injustice is the smoke screen that he used.
Globalists are attacking the fabric of our nation. Players making
millions of dollars are certainly not being oppressed. Everyone in
this nation has the same rights. Has the Constitution been over-
turned? Is the Bill of Rights still intact? Can everyone who wants
to, get an education? What rights don’t these players have? I
really do not see what social injustice they are fighting against.
If these players want to help the black community, why don’t they
give back, instead of protesting? They don’t need to kneel or sit,
or ignore our national symbols. There are so many more effective
ways to help their causes. It is obvious that this in-your-face
garbage does not get positive results. Tell the truth, is it not the
leftists/Demoncrats that cause 99.9% of all troubles in the land?

    • downintx

Very well put and unless we see a turn around in this country, unfortunately, the latter is quite possible and those that have their heads stuck in the sand won’t even see it coming. God bless America.

  • phil62

F— every single one of these assholes. I gave 23 years of my life in solid respect for my country and the flag/anthem that represents it. I gave up all those years so I could be a small part of keeping democracy safe for THESE FOOLS? Like I said: F— all of you.

  • Nikita63

Ms. Messing has the right to be a disrespectful rectal cavity along with all the others in this country who feel as she does ONLY because those who serve in far different uniforms for far LESS money sacrifice their lives and well-being to PROVIDE her those rights; all symbolized by the anthem, Pledge and Flag of this nation. There are plenty of OTHER venues to protest in but, in the NFL, the paying customers, most of whom are Constitutionally loyal and many of whom are Honorable serving military VETERANS should not have to put up with such disrespect for THEIR views when they have paid top dollar to witness a competitive sporting event on the field of play and not a political protest. Both she and her son should think about the ramifications of that reality before choosing to follow the same path, and I am saying so as a 100% disabled Vietnam Vet who DESPISES the NFL, its absurd approval of player disrespect and the encouraging of the same by youths in all sports I would suggest to her that she take her son and visit the Washington, D.C. military Memorials, especially the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall and see after the visit if she and or her son STILL feel the need to follow the stupidity of the player protests of the NFL nit wits; players and owners BOTH!
