The White House is responding to a “60 Minutes” interview of Alexandria Ocaio-Cortex after she stated there was “no question” the President Trump is racist.
The congresswoman has previously refrained from talking about Trump in most instances, but unloaded when interviewed by Anderson Cooper.
Early in the interview Ocasio-Cortez claimed she didn’t regular reference the president as she saw him as a “symptom of a problem.” She offered that “the president certainly didn’t invent racism, but he’s certainly given a voice to it, and expanded it and created a platform for those things.”
Following her declaration Cooper bluntly asked if Ocasio-Cortez believed Trump to be racist she replied, “Yeah, yeah. No question.”
“When you look at the words that he uses, which are historic dog whistles of white supremacy, when you look at how he reacted to the Charlottesville incident, where neo-Nazis murdered a woman, versus how he manufactures crises like immigrants seeking legal refuge on our borders, it’s night and day,” she claimed.
A deputy White House press secretary refuted the congresswoman’s words when Cooper and his “60 Mintues” team broached the subject.
“Ocasio-Cortez’s sheer ignorance on the matter can’t cover the fact that President Trump supported and passed historic criminal justice reform and has repeatedly condemned racism and bigotry in all forms.”
The White House further disputed Ocasio-Cortez’s words by presenting how the administration had raised records sums for historically black colleges and universities while creating record-low unemployment in the Hispanic and black communities.
