Dems Want Holiday To Raise Votes

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform held a hearing over Democrats first new bill of the 116th Congress, and it was not pleasant.

Democratic Representative John Sarbanes proposed bill HR 1 or the For the People Act of 2019, to make voting more accessible and declare Election Day as a federal holiday.

That isn’t the end of it though. The bill would enforce heftier constraints on the executive branch, like making it difficult for people to move between public and private sector work, empower the Office of Government Ethics, and regulate campaign finance disclosure.

However many Republicans were not buying it. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell denounced the bill as a “power grab” and “a package of urgent measures to rewrite the rules of American politics for the exclusive benefit of the Democratic Party.”

Many in the Republican party accused Democrats of blatantly trying to punish Trump for being wealthy as well as introducing legislation that would only aid their voter turnout.

Rep. Jim Jordan refers to the bill as “For the People Who Want Democrats to Win Elections From Now On.” His voice being one of many who claim the bill is a move by the Democrats to enable illegal aliens with the power to vote.

Although it’s not all bad, the bill has brought together Senate Republicans in order to fight the lopsided bill.
